Commissions
The Commonwealth Fencing Federation has a number of Commissions and Working Groups to manage particular issues:
- Technical Commission
- Veteran Commission
- Commission for the Re-entry of Fencing to the Commonwealth Games
- Working Party on Eligibility
Technical Commission
The Technical Commission is the standing body of the CFF that:
- Rules on interpretation of rules.
- Recommends to the Executive and/or Congress changes in the rules for the better running of CFF Events.
- As per handbook, forms the DT at CFF Events.
- Is empowered to make emergency changes to the rules to ensure the smooth running of an event – but these changes shall only be temporary for that event, unless subsequently ratified by Congress.
At the 2006 Congress, the following members were elected to the Technical Commission:
- Helen Smith (ex officio as President)
- John Ramsay (England)
- Alex Donaldson (Australia)
- Ian Hunter (Scotland)
- Marie-France Dufour (Canada)
Veteran Commission
In 2007, the Commonwealth Veteran Fencing Association indicated that it wished to become affiliated with the Commonwealth Fencing Federation.
In response to this, the Commonwealth Fencing Federation set up the Veterans' Commission, to liaise with the Commonwealth Veteran Fencing Association over the organisation of the Veteran Championships.
Marie-France Dufour (Canada) was selected to chair the new Commission. A call will be made to member countries to nominate representatives to sit on it.
Commission for the Re-entry of Fencing to the Commonwealth Games
This Commission carried out a survey of members in 2004: the responses were strongly in favour of seeking re-entry to the Games program.
The Commission consists of:
- Helen Smith (ex officio as President)
- Marie-France Dufour (Canada)
- Peter Andersen (Australia)
- Iain Hunter (Scotland)
- Arun Vij (India
Working Party on Eligibility
The Commonwealth Fencing Federation has been requested to clarify the meaning of ‘Eligibility’ for athletes. This is mainly aimed at ‘home country’ fencers who in the past have sometimes taken advantage of the existing Eligibility rule to change allegiances between Championships.
The Working Party consists of:
- Helen Smith (Chair)
- John Ramsay (England)
- Martin Brill (New Zealand)
- Steve Cooke (Jersey)
- Jack Magill (Northern Ireland)
- Roy Clarke (Scotland)
- Bob Turner (Wales)
