Provisional expression of interest from Northern Ireland to host the 2006 Commonwealth Fencing Championships

The Commonwealth Fencing Federation (CFF) has received a provisional Expression of Interest (EoI) from Northern Ireland to host the 2006 Commonwealth Fencing Championships (CFC).

The CFF Executive now proposes to officially invite NIR to host the 2006 event and to submit a full EoI.

The CFF is now calling for an email vote to ratify this proposal.

Votes should be sent to Helen Smith at helen.smith@curriculum.edu.au by 8 April 2004. Countries are asked to vote 'YES' if they agree to the proposal & 'NO' if they do not.

Please note that only countries who are up to date with their affiliation fees are eligible to vote. The following countries have paid their fees:

Those countries who have not paid, may pay their fees & then vote.

Reminder: For those countries who paid for one year, fees for this year are due on 30 June 2004.

India has advised us of interest in hosting the 2010 CFC

India has also advised us of its interest in hosting the 2010 CFC. However, other countries will be entitled to express interest in hosting the 2010 event when the CFF calls for EoIs in 2006.

I have been advised that Fencing is not included in the program of sports for 2010 in Delhi, so if the 2010 CFC is held in India, the official policy is it cannot be held within 6 months either side of the Games. The CFF will negotiate the dates with the Commonwealth Games Federation closer to the time.

There is a similar restriction on dates if the CFC is held in a different country to the Games and the CFF will contact the CGF regarding dates for 2006.

Next CFF General Assembly

The CFF Executive also proposes that we hold our CFF General Assembly in Paris just before or just after the FIE Congress on 4 December 2004.
We will discuss details of the next CFC and all other CFF matters face to face.
